Caring for your leather

Caring for Your Aniline / Vegetable-Tanned Leather Accessory

Aniline and vegetable-tanned leathers are some of the most beautiful and natural types of leather you can own, but they do need a little extra love to keep them looking their best.

Because they’re minimally treated, these leathers are more sensitive to sunlight, moisture, and everyday wear. But that’s also what gives them their charm. They age beautifully, developing a patina that’s unique to you.

Here’s how to take care of them:

1. Keep it dry
Avoid soaking your leather. A light drizzle is okay, but if it does get wet, gently pat it dry with a soft cloth and let it air dry naturally. No heaters or hair dryers!

2. Store it smart
When you’re not using it, keep your accessory in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. If it came with a dust bag, use it to help protect it from dust and scratches.

3. Protect with care
We recommend Collonil Premium Waterproofer to protect your leather from water and liquids. This is are designed specifically for delicate, untreated leathers and help to gently protect without altering the natural look and feel.

4. Embrace the patina
Scratches, scuffs, and darkening over time? Totally normal. In fact, that’s the magic of vegetable-tanned leather. It tells your story. We don't recommend using lotions to moisturise the leather as it may cause damage to the product. If you are wanting some more tips to revive dry leather, please contact us directly for tailored recommendations based off leather type.

A little care goes a long way and with time, your leather piece will only get better.
